Mandala Art as Meditation & Inspiration
I came by accident to this art form during a difficult time, when a loved one was in the hospital... A family friend sent a mandala coloring book as a therapeutic diversion. I found that losing myself in color harmony & geometrical symmetry lifted my mind far above the day's struggles, & focused me on a puzzle to decode. Since then I've found it a way to soothe an seething mind, to fortify frazzled nerves, & to turn loneliness into a fertile field of creativity.
The idea that beauty & art can grow out painful circumstances inspired the title of my favorite mandala, "A Lotus Blooms in a Volcano".
By sharing this art, I hope I inspire others to always seek their own peaceful sanctum at the core of the challenges they're struggling with.
All of these were improvisations--a journey lasting several hours as the mandala revealed itself to me. Some had a pre-chosen a color palette based on an exotic animal--see Gallery Page for my inspirations.
The designs come from this book, which I encourage you to buy & explore on your own!
